Blower Door Building Airtightness Tests

One of the indicators characterizing a building is its airtightness. The value of this parameter for specific building types is specified in Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure on the technical conditions to be met by buildings and their location.

Meeting the requirements set at the design stage of a building does not guarantee their fulfillment during construction. It is common for the allowable air exchange rate for a completed building to exceed the standards set forth in regulations and the design several times over. This will significantly increase heating and cooling costs compared to the analyses conducted at the pre-construction stage. Warm air also carries moisture, which condenses on the outer (cooler) side of the wall. In turn, the air arriving from outside contains allergens from building materials and dust particles, which negatively impacts the well-being and health of those inside the building.

Performing a leak test BlowerDoor allows you to answer the question whether it meets the requirements contained in the regulations or implementation standards regarding the air exchange rate in the building.

For buildings covered by multi-criteria certification, e.g. BREEAM Whether GREEN HOUSE CERTIFICATE , as well as passive buildings, performing a tightness test BlowerDoor is mandatory.

Other investors can voluntarily commission this type of service. Leak testing BlowerDoor  are the only currently available method allowing for the assessment of this very important parameter from the point of view of building operation.

The measurements taken, combined with the calculations made regarding the heating or cooling energy demand, are the basis for the building owner to:

  • demanding that the contractor improve the assembly/insulation works under the warranty,
  • proper planning of modernization or repair works within the building envelope.

Measurement BlowerDoor we perform based on the standard PN-EN 13829.
