Embodied carbon in LCA

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an analysis that covers the entire life cycle of a building or product, from raw material extraction, production, construction (in the case of buildings), use, demolition, and disposal.

The principles for its development are defined in norms and standards such as ISO 14040 and EN 15978. It provides specific data on CO₂ emissions. It is used in an increasingly wide range of procedures, including:

  • regarding the design of sustainable buildings and their obtaining multi-criteria certificates, such as the Green House Certificate
  • related to obtaining grants and subsidies,
  • related to obtaining preferential investment credit,
  • regarding the assessment of projects in terms of their impact on the climate and environment,
